I am a Speech- Language Pathologist living and working in the Lake Wylie area. I have a small practice here and provide speech-language-feeding therapy to children from Lake Wylie, Clover, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Tega Cay and the surrounding areas ages birth to 5 years. It is such a rewarding career for me to have the privilege to work with young children who are exhibiting communication and feeding difficulties as I am able to give the children and their families the knowledge and strategies to help the children overcome their problems.
I know the importance of being able to work with families to gain an understanding of the child’s strengths and areas of interest and utilize these skills to improve areas of weakness. I make every effort to provide services to the children in their natural environments including at home, in daycare and or out in the community. I strive to work in conjunction with the child’s medical and educational teams to insure we all have a clear understanding of all aspects of the individual child’s current levels of functioning not only in terms of their communication skills, but also their physical and cognitive status as there as are so many layers and factors to explore and take into consideration when developing the best plan of action.
Did you know that a child is born with 100 billion neurons and as the neurons mature synapses are made (2,500 per neuron), by the ages of two to three there are 15,000 synapses per neuron. The child is processing this huge new world around him/her… words, colors, basic and linguistic concepts, relationships, receptive and expressive language skills, pragmatic skills that are the building blocks of communication. The brain will never grow like this again, which is why I work with children in this age range to help them reach their greatest potential, laying the foundation for their educational and social success.
